Why the manual check?

The manual check is most important when launching a new product. Recipients need accurate data on new products to evaluate and decide if the product will be included in the range. Ensuring accurate data to consumers in the sales channels, before sales start, favors everyone in the value chain. An important part of the launch process is therefore the manual check of trade item information in Validoo Q-lab.

In most cases, the recipients need the manually checked information no later than seven weeks before the product is launched. However, it may vary depending on the ECR Trade window.

When are the revision weeks for your category?

What manual check corrects

The most common errors in the trade item information

There are many attributes to enter into Validoo Item and sometimes there are errors in the entered product- or image information. That is why Validoo Q-lab is available. The most common errors detected by a manual check are:

General information

  • Dimensions (height, width, depth) for consumer packaging
  • Packaging type
  • Highest and lowest storage temperature for transport packaging
  • Type of barcode

Food & Beverage information

  • Ingredient list
  • Nutrional values

Chemical safety information

  • Precautionary statements
  • Hazard indications
  • Chemical labelling according to GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals.)

Example: Measurement rules

Some of these common mistakes can easily be avoided by measuring the product and packaging correctly. It has many advantages.

Why are there rules for measurements?

When measuring a products dimensions, such as height, width and depth, it is convenient that everyone measures the same way so that there is no misunderstanding in the flow of goods.

When the measurements in the trade item information are consistent with the actual products dimensions, the store can, for example, make a proper shelf plan. It also makes it possible to plan a transport so that everything fits and the capacity of the truck is optimized.

This is how to measure correctly

Here you can see how to measure products correctly according to GDSN Package Measurement Rules (Global Data Synchronisation Network) and GS1´s standard.
